Broome is once again humming with the excitement of Shinju Matsuri, its a cultural overload spiced with glimses of Elvis and Priscilla. Art House is hosting an exhibition of works by Mark Norval and Indigenous artists including Donny Woolagoodja, Mildred Mungulu, Gordon Barunga and others. The exhibition is at the Broome Convention Centre Chinatown on Frederick Street. If you can't make it in person, you might like to take a look at the online exhibition (exhibition has been taken down link now points to Mark Norval's work) Kindred Spirits will remain open until Sunday evening.

The Shinju Art Awards were judged this week and Art House congratulates Claire Beausein for winning her third Shinju Art Award.

I did mention some Elvis appearances in the beginning of this newsletter and if you were previously unaware, I am somewhat of an Elvis enthusiast. I was recently looking at a boxed Elvis CD collection of mine and decided that as it had been copied to iPod, they might look good framed. Here is the result, the "Elvis" and lightning bolts were cut into the mat work.

If you have copied all your CDs onto your iPod and are wondering what to do with them, why not let Art House turn them into great wall art for you. The CDs are archivally mounted so that they can be removed and played if required, so they will not lose their value.

Western Australia's longest running Art Award the Kimberley Art Prize has just held its 40th anniversary in Derby. This year's overall winner was Kirsty Burgu from the Mowanjum group of artists. Kirsty won the prestigious prize from a field of over 160 artists. Multi Kimberley Art Award winner Mark Norval was again recognized with the award for the category of Oils and Acrylics. Art House has been proud to have sponsored the Kimberley Art Prize for the past 5 years.

To a more personal issue, my wife Robyn recently went to Perth to see Cat Stevens now known as Yusef Islam. As an old Cat Stevens fan Robyn enjoyed the concert immensley and as a reminder of her experience I framed an old Tea for the Tillerman record along with her concert ticket and program. The end result will give Robyn years of memories of the concert and looks amazing. Its so simple how certain objects arranged within a frame can tell a story and create great looking wall art. If you still have favourite records you would like preserved within a frame, we'd be happy to create a design to suit you.
